A Problem.

I think this is funny (a spoof on our web2.0workgroup idea), but I think the story behind it isn’t (alleged sexism, groupthink and more). The people who started the publicity around the original drama claimed that they wished it had never started. But they keep doing things to keep it alive. Why?

  • Perhaps because one of the roots behind the “experiment” was the ongoing sense of disenfranchisement – that the A2 bloggers feel intimidated by the relative reach of the A1 bloggers.

Or maybe it’s a generational thing – notice how apart from Tara, the W2W peeps are noticeably older on average than the Hacks? Dave didn’t call it the OFGN for nothing.

Or it could just be plain old simian group behaviour.

  • I just do it cause it’s funny. funny to me. Also, it’s always interesting to find out how things work, isn’t that what geeks do? Finally, I dont think it has got all that much to do with the original story anymore, it’s become its own story.

Or maybe it’s just supr.c.ilio.us rubbing off on people?

  • Michael,

Well, I didn’t ask to be part of it (I just happened to blog on a similar subject), and to be honest I think this “hack 2.0 workgroup” is stretching it a bit thin. I don’t consider myself one of the “people who started it” and I don’t plan to mention the workgroup on my blog. And I definitely don’t feel any disenfranchisement with the blogosphere – the exact opposite, actually.

I think this is probably just a joke and should be taken as that. I moved on to new topics pretty quickly and I hope everyone else will too.

  • Hey Michael,

I put the Hack2.0 page together, with some help from Alicia who did the logo.

The ‘original’ idea (hacking Memeorandum) was not anything to do with the sexism story. No was it meant to be taken seriously.

No ‘disenfranchisement’ either. Just a bit of fun.

As Pete points out, he blogged it in relation to the ‘Human’ vs. Alogorithm’ angle. In fact it got blogged in relation to so many angles that the ‘original’ idea got lost. I think that’s why it is quite funny that you blog the H2.0 effort in relation to sexism – it’s another tangent off the original idea.

    Anyway, Digg next. ;-)
