Now here’s an interesting idea. In a series of comments to my latest rant about the newest Ajax home page (Fold.com), Axel Wolf, the founder of Fold, suggests (in an exchange with Pageflakes founder Christoph Janz) that I come to Europe to meet with the European entrants into the space (Pageflakes, Protopage, Netvibes, Fold) to get a better understanding of why they have a chance at success:

Axel, one of my personal goals for 2006 is to convince Mike of the viability of the personal startpage concept. Ten months left… I chose Mike because I think he’s more bearish about it than anyone else I know.
I’d appreciate your support.

@Mike: Did you have a look at Pageflakes lately? We released a number of cool new features since our Beta Release three weeks ago. Congrats on the edgeio Release!

Christoph, maybe we should invite him to Europe for a fact finding trip; after all, with regard to start pages this is where the actions is (Pageflakes, Protopage, Netvibes, Fold…)

Guys, I’d love to do it. Think we can get everyone in one place, like London, for a summit? I’ll be there. Early April is perfect.
I’m up for it, and it could be a fun event to bring together these companies and a bunch of bloggers.
We’ll need a sponsor or two for the event to cover costs as well.
Who’s in?

Geez, the TechCrunch Party is moving to London! I’d rent this place
Sponsor or two? Covering costs? Is this going to be a rooftop party?
Why can’t you guys just meet in a pub, I’d love to turn up if it was just a bit more down-to-earth…
I’m in, just shift it to July so we can jump across to Germany after the party and watch the World Cup
London seems a cool Idea, Netvibes will be there !
keep me posted
I’d certainly come up to London for a TechCrunch party!
I would like to go to London too. Maybe I can get some sponsorship…
That sounds fun. Would you want to time it up with WWW2006 conference in Edinburgh, Scotland? http://www2006.org/
I think TechCrunch-6 needs more planning. I doubt if Scotland Yard is as forgiving as is Atherton Police and I’m betting that the Queen would not look kindly upon geeks trouncing through her gardens. A tent in St James Park might work, but there ain’t no way I’m doing the cleanup.

count me in for the visitors. depending on dates there might even be a product to present – no more details for the moment though. if you come to europe I’d recommend a short stop at ETH in zürich. (it’s not only google believing in innovation made in ethz.)

I’d certainly be interested in attending (dates permitting). Count me in.
I’d definitely come, and I know three other people who’d definitely come too, and have a product to present.
I’m sure I speak for the rest of the guys in saying that Salted will be there! Name the time and place (within the UK obviously
)
Yup, I’ll be there, Keep me in the loop.
Shame you could’nt make the recent Carson event.
regards
Al
Count us in, although I’d argue that Apris in Paris is always a great option

Mike,
Do come to London. It will be great. Bring Keith.
Cheers,
Ivan
How about Prague? It’d be a lot cheaper, so you might not need sponsors (a 0.5 liter beer costs less than $1). But I’d come to London as well if that’s where it’ll be.
I am a newbie here. Just starting my carrier with some self funded websites. I would gladly come to join the event from Denmark.
i’d love to come – i’ll be on the ilse of skye taking a break from Web 2.0 for most of April though.. come to london preferably earlier rather than later
I actually do agree with Jack on the location issue. I would rather see the event to happen in Prague or Paris than in London. Why? I do like London but the English tech scene has always been very oriented to the United States, where as the continental European tech scene is more a thing of its own. Don’t get me wrong, I will come to London if it is London, but I would be delighted to have (let’s say) TechCrunch (10) on the mainland.

Keep me posted – I’d love to see TechCrunch come to London.
Definately interested.
Perhaps, you might be interested in hosting the event at Cambridge. Something I can possibly help with.
