Dave Winer says he will put Scripting News “in mothballs”, possibly by the end of 2006.
Dave, no. This isn’t allowed. Scripting News was the first blog I read, starting with an email subscription, then RSS. It is the only blog that I read every single day. Entire generations of bloggers exist (well, their blogs exist, to be more accurate) only because they started out reading Scripting News and were inpired by you. As somebody recently commented about my blog TechCrunch, at this point, Scripting News it really isn’t your blog anymore. It’s ours. You just write it.

Hey, leave the guy alone. If he wants to stop blogging, he’ll stop blogging. Scripting News is Dave’s not ours. His. Not ours. Get it?
Geez Mike.
Oh yeah. If Dave stops blogging at the end of 2006, I will follow suit. (not that my departure will mean much…I’m just sayin’)

Uh, no. That logic is just… wrong.
I agree the logic is wrong, but I sense Mike was articulating a feeling alot of people have. No logic involved.
I am sure that many people remember that this is not the first time that Dave has stopped he is going to stop blogging. Reactions were decidedly mixed at the time. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Dave W wants to quit blogging? Promise?
So, uh, if he’s gonna stop… why doesn’t he just .. ya know… stop. Why all the hoo-haa?
“So, uh, if he’s gonna stop… why doesn’t he just .. ya know… stop. Why all the hoo-haa?”
Because it’s Dave Winer, of course. By the way, he’s done this before. Get a load of this crap:

He is so full of himself he doesn’t need but one meal a day.
Jason has hit the nail on the head.
He says he’ll stop, when? 9 months from now? What’s with the lead time?
Don’t believe it, it’s an old fashioned scream for attention. Also, he craves the controversy. Hell, he’s even turned his comments back on! Come to think of it, he has started trying to pick fights again as well lately. Apparently people aren’t biting anymore.
I think some of the people who are really close to him should keep a eye on him, his emotional problems are far more serious that his physical concerns.
I am just surprised Mr A is asking him to stay, you do know he’ll turn on you too one day. don’t you?
