It’s funny that Martin Wells of Tangler brought up the idea of a TechCrunch Web 2.0 Award Party. I’ve been planning on doing this some time, probably about mid year.
This will be a great event, and an opportunity to really celebrate all of the wonderful innovations created by web 2.0 companies that have made our lives better on the Internet.
We’ll need a bigger and better venue than my house for this, and I have some good ideas.
Details to follow.
UPDATE: Supr.c.ilio.us has a number of suggestions for award categories (very funny):
* Best private Beta waiting list
* Best Google Maps mashup we never really needed
* Best del.icio.us clone
* Best remake of a Web 1.0 .com
* Best launch party
* Best rumored Google feature
* Best Web 2.0 name
* And, of course, the special achievement awards for the Fastest Flip and Longest Running Acquisition Rumors.

I’ve spoken to Amanda and she’s says she’ll do it… for a modest fee.
The Computer History Museum down in Mountain View is a great place to hold an event. Plus, with Web 2.0, I think folks would appreciate a grounding in where the industry came from!
Mike,
You are on the edge(io) from being forced to turn your brand into a “conference arena” - absolutely love all the diversity of the “Crunch” angles, just don’t want to see you get stretched to thin with everything else that you have on you plate…but you sure seem to be handling everything quite well!!
hmm.
* Best private Beta waiting list –> fleck (really funny)
* Best Google Maps mashup we never really needed –> no nomination from me
* Best del.icio.us clone –> http://www.porn-a-licious.com/ (found on http://baris.typepad.com/venture_capitalist/2006/03/web_20_companie.html)
* Best remake of a Web 1.0 .com –> http://glidedigital.com/
* Best launch party –> no nomination here either
* Best rumored Google feature –> google box running on googlix
* Best Web 2.0 name –> xackup (sorry but that name really sucks)
* And, of course, the special achievement awards for the Fastest Flip and Longest Running Acquisition Rumors. –> ok that’s obvious innit? its good ol’ riya for the longest running rumor.
my nominations. i’ll be happy to participate aswell in the real nominations. i guess the only way to get that jke one more level is to give an (maybe life time) award to Supr.c.ilio.us and make sure they come to pick it up

You could call it the Webbies…
There’s no bubble here, no way.
or maybe the crunchies…
For “Best Web 2.0 Name” my vote goes to John Herren’s http://www.mastrbeta.com/ … hands down! (no pun intended)
+1 for the Crunchies
Other categories:
- Quickest flop
- Laudest flop
- Fastest web 2.0 company to reach $10M in revenues
Which is really weird, because I was going to ask you if you wanted to do something awardish in conjunction with Gnomedex - which is mid-year. The Crunchies and the Gnomies?
Chris, love to. Let’s split gnomedex revenue 50/50 and I’m in.
(but seriously, I’d love to)
I like the Crunchies.. How about the 2.0 Woscars… Wink
Good idea. Just keep us updated.
Mike,
Please give Dave Winer a Lifetime Achievement Award.
He could use a little recognition right about now from a source he trusts and respects.
Ditto on the Crunchies award. Great idea by Martin and bravo that the party will be held at a larger venue.
