I’m not even a woman and I’m offended by CNET’s Top Ten Girl Geeks article, which includes such notable technologists at Paris Hilton, Daryl Hannah and Lisa Simpson (yes, the cartoon character).
Someone actually wrote this post, and then at least one other person edited it. This went through multiple people to be published. Did anyone, at any point, think?
Nice one, CNET. Way to be a leader in our industry.

I posted about this article this morning and like you are completely offended. (http://www.centernetworks.com/cnet-uk-top-10-girl-geeks)
I am not sure if they meant to be funny, or if they just wanted to try to get into Paris’ pants. Whatever the reason, it is crap. Also, we sat and talked about the white-boy clubs after fowa and this just adds some more fuel to the fire. I counted over 800 replies on cnet and on slashdot – and then majority of them are flames. A lot of the replies actually have people who belong on the list.
And Michael, to answer your question, nope, no one thought. Lame with a capital L.
Paris Hilton? WTF. Last I checked, knowing how to somewhat use a Sidekick doesn’t make you a technologist. Have a good thanksgiving Mike.

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!! I was drawn into the article by its seductive title and was interested in seeing who CNET placed as the top ten women of the industry. I was offended by the garbage I found in this piece.
The women in the industry were made into a horrible mockery by CNET. They should issue an apology and put together a “real” list of the top 10 women of the industry.
Mikey, I have to agreed. this was very sloppish work. Someone in the comment said “COBOL not COBAL.”

Just shows how pathetically this was written and how geeky was the CNET Author/Editor .. hmmmmmmmm is not CNET one of the Alan M (jupiter) properties ??
hmm – looks like my post which showed submitted – is not appearing.
Well, it’s hysterical that milking technology to make a buck (by putting her name/likeness on it, which is why she was at e3, etc.) makes Paris a “tech geek.”
Next to some serious geeks, these entries do seem like a waste of ink (or bandwidth if you must) and a stupid joke. I suppose Daryl Hannah could pass just because of her role as Pris, and Bladerunner of course is on the top 10 film list of many geeks. But even that’s fiction. I was surprised there were not more contemporary female geeks in there.
It would be very interesting to see the same guys do the male version of this list.
if you hate it, make your own list.
