Our Own Mini Post Secret

In 2005 we wrote a post on TechCrunch about Post Secret, the site where you anonymously send in a postcard with a secret written on it and it is published on the site (and has also been made into a physical book). That post has gathered hundreds of comments – usually 3 or 4 per week – that talk about people’s secrets. There are some really freaky and beautiful things written there.

  • I hope that some of those disturbing ones aren’t true…

  • That site’s been around for so long – it’s really interesting, I agree.

  • You have to believe that at least 1/2 of the stuff on there is fake, but I always wonder which half. Same thing with Overheard In NY. Getting these anonymous glimpses sure is fun though!

BTW – Michael, you probably saw you were nominated for the 2007 Bloggies (2007.bloggies.com). I don’t even know if these are a big deal, but wanted to let you know (I only know because someone told me I was nominated for the Best New category … cool!).

    Keep Smiling,
    Anita ;)

  • I believe them all. Everyone I’ve sent in are true, but they never post them. It secretly makes me mad.

  • i think that post secret is a great website that alows people to let things out that they normaly would never tell anyone

  • I loved it, the whole essance of it all inspired me and now I want to share my secrets with everyone.

  • I wouldn’t post a secret there, because it totally undermines the idea of a secret.

However if I was in a bad situation, it would probably feel easier to let out my secret and let myself loose.

  • I think it’s probably soothing in a way…much like a confession. Of course, the beauty is that it is (for the most part) confession without consequences.

I think it’s beautiful. It’s the secrets people hold most dear, and whether they enthrall us or disgust us, we have no right to comment on them…they are just one glimpse at a life…just one secret, big or small.

I think that it’s too easy to tell yourself that some of them are fake.

Most of all, it’s a form of release. People shouldn’t have to live with all the secrets that they do, but as a society we seem to demand it…so this is a way for them to be free of the burden if only for a moment.

  • I act sleezy because it’s the only thing I’ve got
