How Seven Sites Are Run

Pingdom has the results of a survey they did with seven websites (including TechCrunch) that shows certain trends on back end software. Almost all use Linux, Apache (with Lightly coming on strong), MySQL, and PHP.

I’m actually surprised you’re just on 2 servers Mike. I would have thought you’d be on at least 5 (2 web, 2 DB and one “other” for things like crunching stats and mail).

Dunno, given your revenue I’d have just thought uptime would be of fair importance to you (ie: this isn’t a jab, just surprised).

 

Jeremy: number of servers alone isn’t a measure of redundancy or performance

 

It looks like PHP and MYsql are the clear winners. Personaly I think NET looks v MS centric.
