I just saw this ad on TechCrunch, which says “TechCrunch Should Review…Intellicontact” and links here. They bought an adsense ad specifically for TechCrunch, and are probably paying a dollar or so per click. Funny and creative.
Some kid who works for Tucker Max wrote about this a few weeks ago. I think he actually predicted someone advertising like that on your site of all places. Scooped buddy.
Thanks for the post Michael. I am the guy that set up the campaign earlier today. I thought you might be interested in some stats on this campaign. We’ve gotten 128,300 impressions today on the ad with a 0.04% Click Through Rate (CTR). It’s actually a lot more than $1 per click in our case. The Google Site Targeted Campaigns charge per CPM and we’re getting a low CTR so the CPC is $10.39 presently.
128,300 Impressions
0.04% CTR
64 Clicks
$10.39 Per Click
$665.10 Total Cost
1 Conversions to Trial (1.56%)

Nik that’s actually an awesome idea! Web 2.0 banners with social messages that you get from your friends and family.Imagine a social network that allows you to place their banner on your site or blog, and users (that you choose), can text you cool messages when they online. Cool I prefer a widget instead of a banner though..
Forget CPC, CPM, CTR … there’s a new metric, even a multiplier, that needs to be assigned to campaigns (stunts) like this. It is indeed brilliant … the first time. The 15th time, maybe not so …
I seen that and thought it was pretty amusing.
That’s a brilliant idea - if only you’d posted this on TechCrunch Mike!
So, you gonna review them or not?

Another blogger picked up the story last night–Zaid from iJigg… http://www.zaid360.com/?p=53
did you see the latest one?
“Mike it’s your mother, please call, we just want to know if you are ok”
Tucker Max? My God, there are people that read my blog that are Tucker Max fans? Good reason to kill techcrunch immediately.
“..are probably paying a dollar or so per click..”
Guess that’s a CPM ad so they aren’t paying per click

How many licks does it take to jump the shark?
7… it takes 7 licks to jump the shark
getting TC to feature one is worthless. The Readers wont stick about and it amounts to a free link in the end. Was it worth the bother?
