From the article:
“crunch,” which refers to the personalizing and subsequent sharing of online content
So basically some know nothing marketer at their company read a few of your posts, saw the traffic, and ripped the name off. Also seems like their definition for “crunch” is a synonym for Web 2.0.
“1. Pertaining to the organic online habit whereby teens mash up an image, mp3, etc. with their lifestyle
2. esp., by personalizing it with favorite stories, stars, brands, pictures, and ultimately, sharing.”
I hate to break this news to you: You don’t own a monopoly on the word “crunch”. Or placing words back-to-back on top of one another. But I suppose that’s neither here nor there.
Also, I love how you’ve blatently ripped off digg’s “up/down” voting system icons (with a flip of the green “up” icon first on your site). That’s classic.
All other things aside, I really like your site. Keep up the good work.
um… everyone pretty much knows that ‘teens’ don’t crunch they crunk…

Love the use of the dictionary definition:
“crunch // Pronunciation Key [kruhnch], variation: crunching – verb (used with object)”
“1. Pertaining to the organic online habit whereby teens mash up an image, mp3, etc. with their lifestyle
2. esp., by personalizing it with favorite stories, stars, brands, pictures, and ultimately, sharing.”
It kind of takes away from your story of coming up with the name while sitting on the couch eating chocolate bars.
My personal favorite is TechCraunch, focused on Australian technology. http://techcraunch.wordpress.com/
Don’t flatter yourself.
