I have had a terrible flu the last few days. It started last Friday with a fever (the early stages of the flu often feel great when the only symptom is a fever…), but by Monday I was bed ridden. Tuesday morning I just was too sick to even sleep, and just wanted someone to put me out of my misery. Yesterday was bad as well, but today I woke up a new man. Hopefully no relapses are coming.
I was away in four cities for two weeks and not sleeping much right before I came down with this, so the fact that I got sick is no surprise. What’s bothering me is that this is the fourth time I’d gotten ill enough to miss work just since last summer. Before that, I don’t think I got sick four times in a decade. Something lifestyle-wise needs to change, obviously.

Cut back on travel, take vitamins every morning, drink more water, and get on a regular sleep schedule. Then add in some light exercise and you’ll be a new man. Seriously.
My Dr. asked me last year if I knew what kind of impact flying frequently has on my body and immune system. I didn’t, and he explained. Scary.
Take care Mike.
Orange juice every morning, you’ll be rocking again.
hope you feel better Mike! take your vitamins, eat your vegetables and don’t forget to sleep! it is important.
This year has been a bad one for everyone. I’m just getting over my own plague. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I’d cast about for a diabolical explanation that involves contaminating the flu vaccine supply to cripple the tech industry.
You gotta hit up that Airborne for your flights, Mike. That’s what that shit is made for
Glad to hear you’re feeling better, Mike. You need to relax a little, my friend.
“- Something lifestyle-wise needs to change, obviously.”
The last time someone said that to me was just before he got married.
Great article, thanks.
Lifestyle change? You said it yourself. Eat less meat.

Switching to an almost animal product-free diet has done wonders for my health. Haven’t been sick in well over a year (minus a 24 hour thing coming back from Mexico City a few weeks ago).
Eat a bunch of healthy food and your body will thank you for it. We will too. We need you around to write about us.
..you look like hell every time i see a picture/vid of your mug. you need to get more sleep as that has the biggest impact on your health..
Mike,
Was just reading TC and from a comment learn’t u where hit with flu.
TAKE CARE drink lot of water & don’t forgot to hit the Gym once in a while and get in good shape.
Recover fast my friend…
Cheers, Nag

Your candle burns on both ends so your light is strong but it won’t last for long. Maybe you should relax, become less involved, get a more stable environment….. STOP ….. sounds like becoming a main stream media guy.
take care, we all need you like you are.
My wife has found that a product called “oscillococcinum” (o-sill-o-cox-see-num) works wonders for the flu. The flu has been running rampant in the NC area and she came down with it on Thursday. She took that stuff and felt almost well the next day.
I think you can find it at Whole Foods.
YMMV.
Its a late message, but taking heed to getting a regular amount of sleep in — and a regular sleep cycle — will likely improve things in ways you cannot imagine.
(that, and all the other motherhood stuff — drink your OJ, eat your vegetables, 12mile runs on a beach, hang gliding, parasailing, and bare-handed rock climbing up sheer cliffs … you know.
)
I’m just catching up post Mobile World Congress and saw this. I can relate. I usually get one fall/winter cold or flu and one light spring change of season cold. This year there’s been more. People I know in different parts of the world are getting hit harder the later they get it. I had what you had back in November.. It is horrible…
This week. I’m basically taking the week off. Some online reading, posting to other blogs, not blogging, and doing a minimal amount of work/work while we’re at a wine event with friends..Somehow getting away from it all is making me feel better and revitalized every day. So take the week off when you better and come back good as new.
