I just did something really stupid. I put Disc 1 of Season Five of 24 into my DVD player. If this is anything like the first four seasons, that means that the next 48 hours won’t involve much blogging on my part. Wish me luck. And no plot spoilers from those of you who slugged it out by watching it on broadcast TV earlier this year.

Update: Just finished episode 1. I’m hooked.

  • Yep. You’re screwed pal. Enjoy! Probably a good time to watch season 5 since 6 is supposed to be starting in January….

  • See you on the other side Mike. Btw if you want to watch the best TV ever made try West Wing or BSG if you have not already.

  • I was hooked for seasons 1-4, but for some reason last year I got sick of it and quit at about the 8th hour. Same stuff… over and over and over… JACK BAUER LIVES!

  • Too late…. you are now Bauered-Hooked!

  • Mike – I disagree with Bob – I think season 5 was quite a bit of an improvement over the season 4 which was good but not quite up to par with the first three. Have fun – it’s another wild ride!

And yes, since Fox does not have the Super Bowl this year, the new season begins with a two-day 2-hour premier on January 14 and 15.

  • I, too, have been burning along on Season 5 since I purchased it on Tuesday. I anticipate having it done this week (as I am on disc 4, if memory serves. I don’t watch too much regular television, but 24 is indeed my television crack.

That said, I have to chime in along with Marc, Mike. Season 5 is a vast improvement over Season 4. To me, Season 4 was too much of CTU stopping a threat just in time to learn there was another threat that they now need to stop. Ugh.

Even better, at the end of your viewing of Season 5, you can see the Season 6 prequel on the disk. That is the other reason why I am watching at a feverish pace.

Told you it is my TV crack. ;-)

  • Uh oh, Mike, stay away.

I watched all five seasons of 24 in just about two weeks.

If you ask me, season 4 ranks the best, followed closely by season 5 and 1 which are tied at second place.

    Hang tight mate!

  • I loved season 5 and ranked it as the best. You’ll move from in front of the tv only when you absolutely have to; food and bathroom breaks are not nearly as important as getting to the next episode. Bathing? Hahaha – no way. Dig in and hold on cuz it is a great ride.

  • Season 5 is OK, better than some other seasons. I forget which season I thought was the worst (3 or 4). I believe it was the Virus one. The only shows I’ll watch are 24 and The Shield. I started to watch the Shield b/c it started after 24, back when they both aired on Tuesdays.

  • Can’t remember when I had some free time to actually see something on my DVD player. oh well.. maybe I’ll just watch it on the web ;)

  • Season 1 would rank the highest for me, although I haven’t seen 5 yet. I guess this means I should grab a copy and bring it back home to watch over the holidays.

  • I watched it a few months ago, it’s awesome!

  • Judging by your activity on TechCrunch, I see that you’re not having much of a vacation, ‘eh? ;-)

  • Bauer is a Cylon.

  • Mike, what happened in season 5? Something really messed it up for you. Probably it would have been better just to stop there. You say that you will not blog as much during the next 48 hours, but 48 hours later you have managed to put you in the middle of something…well, not good. It all started with the strange post targeting Winer.

I’m just considering if we have watched/read the first 4 episodes of “48″ the new series brought to you by the Crunch network.

  • 24 Season 5 just rocks :)

In fact… all 24 seasons just rock… It’s amazing to see how easy it is to stay in front of a screen for 18 hours or so !

David Palmer will always be in our memories…

  • i like 24………..

  • i love Jack action………….
    dammit………..
